About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

Do I qualify for both times 144/72 hour Free Visa ?

I will fly from LAX ---- Shanghai (stay 2 nights)
I will take a 7 night cruise from Shanghai to Japan. Question 1: Do I qualify 144 hour free Visa?

I will return from Japan from the cruise to Shanghai. Question 2: Do I qualify 72 hour free Visa?
I will stay 1 night in Shanghai and fly back from Shanghai to LAX.

I am buying a roundtrip flight tickets from LAX and Shanghai. It is not a direct flight.
There is about a 13 hours wait time in Shengyang during my connection flight.
Question3: Do I need to buy a direct flight?

1. What is your cruise route from Shanghai to Japan? If the immediate port of call after Shanghai is in a third country, you will qualify for 144-h visa free transit.
2. If the immediate port of call before Shanghai is not in mainland China, you will qualify for 144-h visa free transit.
3. You need to buy a direct flight in order to use 144h visa free transit.
