About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Xian 72/H Visa Application

I am a Portuguese citizen. I plan to fly with my wife from Lisbon to Japan and back.
The nights we will pass in China are:
12 /13 Oct. - From Lisbon to Osaka (Arrival 19h05 Day 12 - Departure 08h40 day 13) Hotel reservation for one night in Airport Sheng Jie Inn
21 /23 Oct - From Osaka to Bangkok (Arrival 17h15 day 21 - Departure 03h50 day 23) Hotel reservation for two nights in Airport Sheng Jie Inn and Tour Guide to visit Terracota Warriors
25 /25 Oct - From Bangkok to Lisbon (Arrival 02h50 - Departure 12h15) Hotel reservation for one night in Airport Sheng Jie Inn
Do we qualify for the 72h visa free transit? Thank you for your advice! Best regards Luís

Many thanks for your reeply, and useful information. I'm fying directly from lisbon to Xian, fortunatly Beijing Capital Airlines is doing those flights.

Luís, your entire itinerary is definitely eligible for visa free transit.

During your first stay in Xi'an, you will be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit because your transit time will be less than 24 hours. Here I have to tell you that since there are no direct flights from Lisbon to Xi'an, it is obvious that you will have some other origin for your flight to Xi'an. Please, be careful that your itinerary does not have any additional landing within mainland China!

During your second stay in Xi'an, you will be eligible for 72 hour visa free transit because your transit time will exceed 24 hours. Again, be careful because your itinerary is not allowed to have more than just one landing within mainland China, exactly in Xi'an.

During your third stay in China, you will be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. Again, be careful not to have additional landings within mainland China.

In reality, when you travel on 24 hour visa free transit, you are allowed to have an additional landing within mainland China, but your entire transit time through China, calculated from your first scheduled landing, until your last scheduled departure cannot be longer than 24 hours. During 72 hours visa free transit only one landing is allowed.

Please, print out your flight tickets and bring the printouts with you. You should also print out your accommodation booking confirmation. In case of any doubts, just ask us for an explanation.
