About:Chinese Consulate in Vancouver

Do we need a visa to leave the airport in Guangzhou for overnight accommodation while in transit

We have a 15 h 15m layover in Guangzhou on our way to Nepal from Vancouver. We are both Cdn citizens. The airline will provide free accommodation for layovers longer than 8 hrs but the hotel is outside the airport and we are not sure if we must have some sort of visa to exit the airport. We will be in China for less than 24 hrs. If we require a visa can we get it when we arrive there or do we have to get this in Canada before we leave?

Dear, you are eligible for the 24h visa-free transit. To leave the airport, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport upon arrival.
