About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

TRANSIT FROM TOKYO TO BEIJING/ BEIJING TO NYC

Hi - I am a US Citizen traveling next month from Tokyo to Beijing to NYC.
My connection from Beijing to NYC is about 15 hours long.

I should be able to qualify for the 24 hr. free transit visa correct? I am assuming there is no fee for this..?

Also, If I am staying in a hotel right outside the airport do I still need the free transit visa?

There is no "free transit visa". You don't need any kind of visa for your transit. At the discretion of the immigration officer, you will be granted a temporary entry permit for your hotel stay, especially if it is overnight. Just be sure to print out the hotel confirmation and you should be fine.
