16 hr layover - day trip in Beijing

Hi I have 16 hrs layover and want to take a day trip in Beijing, using the 24 hr transit visa.
Is there a requirement on Passport validity to be able to avail this? For eg - min 6 months from expiry?
Thanks!

Actually, you cannot obtain 24 hour transit visa in Beijing. You can travel on 24 hour visa free transit, so there are no visas at all.

Assuming that your itinerary is eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, you will apply for 24 hour free entry permit upon your landing in Beijing. It is highly advisable to have a confirmation of accommodation booking or a day/half day tour to be granted the mentioned entry permit that is issued entirely upon discretion of Chinese immigration authorities. Of course, you can apply for the mentioned entry permit even without the mentioned accommodation and tour confirmations, because your layover is quite long and your chances are quite fine. With the mentioned confirmations they (your chances) are almost certain.

To be allowed to make a transit through China, your passport needs at least 3 months of remained validity.
