About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Country A & C, can they be the same?

US citizen. Vietnam- Shenzhen - Vietnam with the 144hr visa. Would it be possible?

Of course, not. This is a return trip or a visit to China. There is no a third country. You will need a visa or different flights. Of course, you can use 144 hour visa free transit, if you add Hong Kong (or Macau). Something like this:
