About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Less than 24h airport transfer in Shenzhen

Hi, I’m flying from LHR to Hanoi via SZX for 7 hours (18:00 until 01:00, no plan to leave the airport). I saw that rules changed on the 1st of May allowing 144 visa free travel, however I read below that this is only available where the transit is over 24h. It also says on here that SZX is excluded form the 24h transit, and a 5 day visa on arrival is not possible at the airport. Does this mean I need a visa? Thanks

Thanks for this. I just wanted to clarify as it says on this link that the 24h transit is not available at SZX: www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/intro2.htm

No, you don't need a visa. You are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. You were probably confused with the information that it is not allowed to use 24 hour visa free transit for transfers to Hong Kong and Macau. This is the limitation of 24 hour TWOV in Shenzhen, but if you continue to some other country that is different from the territories of Hong Kong and Macau, which in your case is Vietnam, you are perfectly eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shenzhen.
