About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit Visa Exemption or visa free transit

May I know what is the correct wording to use
My travel agent said that HK does not qualify as a third country so they canceled my ticket
As they said there is a very good chance that I would be refused by the airline at check in ...
It’s very confusing to be honest ☹️

If that is the case, then your travel agent is incompetent.

You should change your travel agent because Hong Kong is qualified as a third country for visa free transit purposes. Plainly speaking, Chinese authorities have decided that all the countries are considered to be third countries and along them three territories: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

You would not be refused by the airlines at check-in because they have Timatic, the most authoritative guide for visa, visa free and similar details and they would clearly see inside that Hong Kong is undeniably considered as a third country. For example, can you imagine the people using the following itinerary to stay 144 hour visa free transit in different mainland Chinese cities:

Hong Kong - Beijing - Macau :)

At first this appears to be impossible, but quite the opposite, this is perfectly eligible itinerary for visa free transit purposes. I'm sorry to hear for your probable loss, but at least now you know the real situation and the truth regarding the status of Hong Kong within this visa free transit story.
