About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US permanent resident holding Vietnamese passport

I am a US permanent resident travelling with a Vietnamese passport. My flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Los Angeles on Cathay Pacific this coming September 13, 2019 will have a lay over of 33 hours in Hong Kong. Will I be able to get a transit visa in order to visit Hong Kong for 1 day ? If so, how do I go about applying for my transit/entry visa?
Thank you.

By far the best option for you is to apply in person for a Hong Kong visa at the nearest Chinese diplomatic mission. Probably the nearest to you is General Consulate of China in HCMC. You should study in detail, although it is really not so complicated the part on this website (China Travel Guide) titled: "Apply for Hong Kong Visa". You should do it right now because the processing of visa usually takes four working days. Start with your application tomorrow to accomplish everything in time.
