About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

U.S. passport holders arriving by ship

We hold US passports and are cruising from Japan to Shanghai and staying for 56 hours before our flight to the U.S. Shanghai has a 144 hour visa free transit scheme but is Shanghai one of the cities that you may enter from sea port and still qualify?

Shanghai is definitely one of the cities that allow arrival by sea as legal and eligible way for 144 hour visa free transit. In other words, your itinerary is definitely eligible for this visa free transit scheme, but you should take care that your flight back to US does not have any additional landing within mainland China and in Japan.
