About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai + Beijing on 72h visa

Hi - I am a French national flying to Shanghai for work. I will apply for a 72h visa in Shanghai. Question: could I book a flight to Beijing the next day and spend a day in Beijing before flying back to Shanghai and exiting China within 72h of arrival? Or do I have to stick to Shanghai the whole time?

“72h visa” does not exist. If you are in transit to a third country then you may qualify for 144 hours transit without visa, which requires that you stay in the Shanghai area the whole time. Otherwise you need a visa.
