It was almost 10 years ago that i have a multiple entry visa while i was working for a US MNC. The visa was on my old passport. Guess that not going to help right? Lol

Malaysian citizens are eligible for a Shenzhen VOA only in case if they have been granted a Chinese visa by Chinese embassy or consulate previously. Having this in mind I would suggest you to obtain a Chinese visa in advance even if you just want to visit Shenzhen city.

Paul, actually this detail could help significantly. If you still have a passport where the Chinese visa is present, it could help. Of course, it is important that your old passport is in relatively decent condition and that a Chinese visa is clearly visible. So, if you have that, you should bring it to the border crossing and the chance that a Shenzhen visa will be granted to you is really very good. If I were you I would not hesitate to do that.
