About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

NYC to Vienna to Beijing (US Citizen)

Hello!

I have booked a flight from NYC (with a layover in Vienna, Austria) and land in Beijing on Saturday at noon. If I have a flight from Beijing to Tokyo on Friday at 9AM (I am a US Citizen) do I qualify for the 144 hour visa free transit? What is the difference between 72 and 144 hour visa free transit and would I qualify for the 144 hour specifically? I don't plan to enter China again during my trip!

Thanks!!

Zac, your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing area. You have asked about 72 hour TWOV... Well, this option was replaced with 144 hour TWOV a couple of years ago, so every transit in Beijing longer that 24 hours, if the passport holder comes from 53 eligible countries, is covered by 144 hour TWOV. Have your flight tickets in hard copy (in reality, just print out your e-tickets). Also, it is highly advisable to have at least the first night in Beijing booked in advance because there are a couple of questions on the 144 hour form where they ask about your accommodation.
