About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Beijing- NYC 1 stop

Hello! We will be traveling from Phuket to Beijing. We arriving on Oct 17, 6am and were planning to NYC from Beijing on Oct 19, 3pm with one stop (3hours long) in other China city. Do we qualify for 72h free visa or not? Beijing- NYC will be direct flight with 1 stop, but I have concerns if it is ok. Thanks!

You will need a tourist (L) visa due to the second Chinese landing as that limits you to the 24 hour transit.
