About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Traveling from NYC to GuangZhou to Hong Kong

Hello,

I am a US citizen planning to visit GuangZhou and Hong Kong. On October 1st, I would be arriving to GuangZhou at 9:45PM and taking the train to enter Hong Kong on October 2nd 4:00PM. I was wondering if I would need a visa to enter and then transfer to Hong Kong, or do I qualify for the free visa-free transit.

You would need a visa. 24 hours visa-free transit doesn’t apply to transits from Guangzhou to Hong Kong. If you stayed in Guangzhou longer, there are 144 hour visa-free options.
