Does the 144 hour transit visa cost anything on arrival?

It's not a visa. So there's no cost because you're not really getting anything.

Its not a visa so it doesn't cost anything. Its a transit without visa. Make sure Shanghai is your only mainland Chinese landing and that your fight out is non-stop to a different country than you land in Shanghai from.
