About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I use the 144 hour transit rule?

Here is my itinerary:
Miami (USA) to Zurich (Switzerland) non-stop. I connect in airport, then Zurich to Beijing non-stop.

For the return: Beijing to Zurich nonstop. I connect in Zurich airport, then Zurich to Rome (Italy). I stay in Italy 1 week. Then I leave Italy for the USA via Zurich again.

Can I use the 144 hr Transit, or do I need a Visa?

You need a visa as Zürich - Beijing - Zürich is not a transit.

Thomas, so if I my connection to China coming from the USA was Zurich, but on the way out of China was in a country other than Switzerland, could I have used the 144 hour Transit rule?
