About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Do I need to stay overnight in country "C"?

ie I am travelling Sydney - Shanghai(5 Days) - Hong Kong (1.5 hr layover) - Sydney

No just need to have the plane wheels land on the runway to count. Make sure only one the one landing in Hong Kong
