US citizen with USA passport

Hello
I am a USA citizen with a US passport. I plan to fly into Beijing in September and stay for 34 hours then will transit to Tianjin Cruise Port in a hired taxi. I will then take a 10 day cruise away from China. I plan to return Sept 21 to this same Tianjin Port for 6 hours. With a flight out of Beijing back to USA.
Does anyone know if I need a China passport?

Eileen, you didn't mention where from will you arrive into Beijing! Never mind because I will assume that you will arrive by plane from US. Also, you didn't mention where to your cruise is heading. OK, never mind. You are eligible for visa free transit in Beijing twice in principle, but under the following conditions:

- Your flight from US to Beijing is no allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China and in the country where your cruise will have its first port of call, immediately after Tianjin
- Your cruise is not allowed to have its first port of call, immediately after Tianjin, in mainland China
- Your cruise is not allowed to have its last port of call, immediately before Tianjin, in mainland China
- Your flight from Beijing to US is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China and the country where your cruise will have its last port of call, immediately before Tianjin.

I'm practically certain that your itinerary fulfills the above mentioned conditions, but I encourage you to check your itinerary once again in the light of the above mentioned conditions.

If your entire itinerary fulfills the above mentioned conditions, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit during your first arrival in Beijing and for 24 hour visa free transit during your second arrival in Beijing. In other words, you don't need any kind of visa.
