About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit visa at Kunming airport

I am travelling Nepal via Kunming by China Eastern Airlines and hold a Nepalese passport. Transit time is 9hrs. Do I need transit visa.

No, you don't. Your itinerary is perfectly covered by 24 hour visa free transit. In other words, you don't need any kind of visa.

Tribhuvan, since there is no direct flight from New Zealand to Kunming, you will need another stop to reach Kunming. Please, keep in mind that in case that even this stop is in China, you overall transit time, from your first scheduled arrival until your last scheduled departure should be less than 24 hours to be eligible to enjoy visa free transit in China.
