About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Xiamen Airlines 2 stop route - 24 hours w//overnight stay

Hello,

I'm looking at booking options to return from Sydney, Australia to back home in the United States. Xiamen airlines has a flight SYD-XMN-SZX-SEA, with a 14 hour layover in XMN, and then a two hour layover between SZX and SEA. Total time in China is under 24 hours (arrival in China 18:55 Thursday, departure 12:55 Friday).

Question 1: Would this be eligible for either the 24, 72 or 144 transit visa?
Question 2: If only the 24 hour, would I be able to book a hotel for the night? Xiamen Air has its own booking arrangements for passengers overnighting during a layover in their XMN hub.

A1: You are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in China

A2: Yes, you will be perfectly able to book a hotel for the night because you will be granted an entry permit for certain. Simply speaking, you will have a transfer from an international to a domestic flight and this is impossible to accomplish without an entry permit.

Your itinerary is very good, especially if the price is affordable :)

I wanted to say that you will have a transfer from an international to a domestic segment (Xiamen to Shenzhen) of the international flight from Xiamen to Seattle. You are definitely eligible for an entry permit.
