What about JFK - SHA (4 hrs) - TPE (4 days) - SHA (6 days) - JFK ?

If you have mentioned all your stops, your itinerary is perfectly eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai twice.

During your first arrival in Shanghai, you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and during your second arrival you will enjoy 144 hour visa free transit.

No, there are just 24 and 144 hr options. It used to be 72 hr option, but it was replaced by more generous 144 hr option a couple of years ago. So, if your transit is just a minute longer than 24 hours, you can enjoy 144 hr TWOV.
