About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,

I have the following question about entering China and I would be very grateful if you could help me:

My husband and I are planning to travel to China in October 2019 (entry by plane from Frankfurt) to start a trip on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.
We will arrive in Beijing on 04.10.2019 before the cruise starts and will then leave China with the cruise ship on 07.10.2019 and towards Japan. So it would be a one-time entry to China.
If necessary, I can forward you a detailed itinerary.
Neither my husband nor I have been to China before and had not yet applied for or received a visa for China.

Do my husband and I need a tourist visa or does this trip fall under the 144-hour exemption, entry without a visa, as we will leave the country soon?

Flights from Frankfurt to Beijing don't have an additional stop in Mainland China.

It's perfectly possible to book a Frankfurt to Beijing flight via another mainland China city, on China Southern, China Eastern, Air China, etc.

Your itinerary is:

Frankfurt - Beijing (Tianjin) - Fukuoka (your first port call after Tianjin)

I have noticed that your cruise doesn't have as its first port call, immediately after Beijing (Tianjin), in mainland China and that makes you definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing area.

Anyway, you should have in mind that your flight from Frankfurt to Beijing should not have any additional landing in mainland China and Japan!

Also, you should print out your flight tickets and your cruise ticket because they will be the proof of your eligibility for 144 hour visa free transit. Having accommodation booking confirmation is not mandatory, but it is recommended, so that you can fill out the spaces in the form you will fill out upon your landing in Beijing.
