For the 72 Hour Visa what is the best 3rd country to travel to - US - Beijing- ? - US

I have a presentation for business at 14:00 in PEK on a Friday. I plan to fly Detroit - PEK. Then PEK back to Detroit. But I need a third country for the 72 hour visa correct? What is best 3rd country (that also does not require a visa)?
