About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa possible?

I am currently in China with a single entree visum. During my time here I want to go to Hong Kong and come back to China to take a flight to South Africa with a transit visa. Is this possible?

Why do you wanna apply for a transit visa?
Many cities in China allow a visa free transit.

Thomas, I think that Gerben had a visa free transit scheme in mind, but he has just confused the terminology and has asked about the transit visa instead of visa free transit.

Gerben, if I'm right about your intention, you can currently take a flight from two mainland Chinese cities to South Africa, namely Beijing and Shenzhen. Believe it or not, probably Beijing is a cheaper option because you can take a train from Hong Kong to Beijing, but to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit for Shenzhen, you will have to fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and then return to Shenzhen by train to catch a flight for South Africa. Please, keep in mind to have at least 25 hours of time between your scheduled arrivals in Beijing/Guangzhou and your scheduled departures to South Africa. The reason is simple, to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.
