About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 hour Visa free qualification

Hello,
I had recent travel changes but I still wanted to see Shanghai.. do layover airports count as a transfer?
For example I fly from 24Sept - NRT, Japan to layover 8 hours in DMK, Thailand to 24Sept- PVG, Shanghai fly out 26 Sept and l layover in ICN, South Korea for 5 hours then to NRT, Japan... total hours in Shanghai would be less than 72 hours however.
Would this be okay? Please let me know. It's been a dream of mine to see Shanghai. Thanks again.
Regards
K. Silva

So, your itinerary is:

Tokyo (Narita) - Bangkok (Don Mueang) - Shanghai (Pu Dong) - Seoul (Incheon) - Tokyo (Narita)

If I'm right and if there are no other stops between Bangkok and Shanghai and Shanghai and Seoul, you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area, assuming that you are a US citizen. So, if your wish is to see Shanghai and its surroundings, you should not limit yourself to just two overnights, but you can enjoy the city and the area around for full 6 days absolutely visa free :)

You should bring your flight tickets in hard copy and preferably have an accommodation booking confirmation.
