About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Am I eligible for the 15 day visa policy visiting cruise ports: Dalian,Tianjin, Qingdao & Shanghai?

I am travelling on ms Westerdam (HAL) leaving Yokohama on 13 October and arriving finally in Hong Kong on 9 November. I intend to join group shore excursions at DALIAN on 20th October, Tianjin on 21-22nd October (overnight trip), Qingdao on 24 October and Shanghai on 26-27 October. We then visit ports in Japan,Taiwan, Philippines before ending at Hong Kong from where I fly back to USA.
I am a US citizen and have a passport valid for the next two years.
May I travel visa-free if all my excursions involve at least two persons?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you.

I understand that there is also a 144 hour visa free scheme, that is, for 6 days, from entry to exit. If I skip the excursion at Dalian but take a two-day (October 21-22) overnight stay excursion in Tianjin only can I avoid getting a visa before the cruise?

If the rule permits then can I also visit Qingdao on the 24th and Shanghai only on the 26th before the expiry of 144 hours? Or, is there a restriction of remaining only in one region?

Thanks again.
Cheers.

You need a tourist (L) visa for this. 15 day cruise exemption is only when Shanghai is the first port, you are received on a group tour with Chinese travel agency and leave China on the same boat.

US Passport can apply for 10 year multiple entry which must be obtained before leaving the US. This visa is obtainable as long as at least 1 year remains on the current passport. Once US passport expires the old and new passport can presented on future entries until the 10 year expiration date.

Even if you stay on the boat, if it has 2 or more Chinese ports on the schedule you are not eligible for the 144 hour transit either.
