About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Leaving Shanghai Pudong airport

In my very quick and limited research, but on the official Chinese immigration sites, my understanding was that I could travel on a 144 hour Visa, Singapore to Shanghai and return.

When I checked in this morning in Singapore, on China Eastern Airlines, they said I needed to have a ticket from SH to another country. They suggested that I bought a one-way ticket from SH to Hong Kong on Wednesday, even if I don’t use it. My return flight from SH to Singapore is on Friday, within the 144 hours. Immigration in SH were shown both departing flights - Hong Kong flight booked for Wednesday, SH to Singapore on Friday.

My question: if I don’t take the Hong Kong flight I was recommended by staff in Singapore to buy for their system, will I be ok to leave Friday? The visa in my Passport says I’m ok until 28/07/2019 and doesn’t specify the country I came from or intend to go to next. Or, do I need to book and travel via a Country C on the way home.

I appreciate your guidance

If you have Singapore passport them no visa is required nor do you need to go to third country.
If not, buying a fake ticket to a third country no longer works. The immigration system now knows that you never left and you will be detained or arrested when you try to fly back to Singapore.
