About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Layover of 20 hours in Shanghai

Hi,

I am an Indian (having India passport and US Green Card) living in USA. I am getting a very cheap flight ticket from Chicago to New Delhi but there is a layover of 20 hours in Shanghai. I am planning to stay in an hotel in Shanghai for those 20 hours so that me and my family/kids can take some rest. I want to know if I need any Visa to come out of Shanghai airport to stay in an hotel. I will have my connecting flight tickets with me. Please advise.

You need a temporary permit to leave the airport.
There's no guarantee that you'll get one but with a layover of 20 hours and a hotel reservation, there's a good chance.
