About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Does that count as a third country?

If I fly to China from the US and change planes in Hong Kong, either on the way to China or on the way back to the US, does that count as a third country?

Hong Kong is considered a third country. You can either enter or exit via HKG but not both ways.
