About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I'm a US citizen flying from USA and transitioning from PVG to BKK. Do I need a transit VISA?

How about when I come back from BKK and transit in PVG? Do I need a transit VISA to get back to USA?

Dear, if your route is USA-Shanghai-Bngkok - Shanghai - USA and you have no other stopovers in China, you can enjoy the 144h visa-free transit policy as long as the layover in Shanghai is not more than 144 hours.
