About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Am I elgible for the 144 Visa for tourism travel, US-Beijing-Hong Kong-Bangkok

I am flying from US-Beijing-Hong Kong-Bangkok. I have 4 days between landing in Beijing and flying out of Hong Kong to Bangkok. I wanted to tour the great wall, then take a train to Xian and see the Terracotta soldiers. Then take a train to Hong Kong and fly home to Bangkok. Would this qualify?

Well, if you remove your planned visit to Xi'an, your itinerary is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing. It is not allowed to travel to two different transit zones, in your case to Beijing and Xi'an, and to remain eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Under 144 hours you are allowed to stay within the borders of Beijing and Tianjin cities and the entire Hebei province.

You can leave Beijing to Hong Kong by train, but keep in mind that it has to be a conventional (not a high speed) train departing from Beijing West railway station and arriving at Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong. Also, keep in mind that you will have to have an e-confirmation for this train at the time of your check-in in US. You can book the ticket for this train right on this website. The alternative to train is to take a plane from Beijing to Hong Kong.

In case that you really want to enjoy your original itinerary, you will have to obtain a Chinese tourist (L) visa.
