About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Coming into Shanghai on a cruise.

Coming into Shanghai on a cruise and then going on to Singapore. Does the Transit Visa work for me? I am a U.S. Citizen. I will be going straight to the airport from cruise terminal. Will customs at Cruise Terminal clear me for the Transit Visa?

Ray, I can tell you that you are eligible for 24 hours visa free transit in Shanghai, but under two conditions:

- Your cruise should not have as its last port call, immediately before Shanghai, the port within mainland China.
- Your flight from Shanghai to Singapore should not have any additional landing within mainland China and in the country where your cruise will have its last port call.

One more detail to clarify... You will not get any kind of visa because you will enjoy 24 hours visa free transit, so no visa at all. It is true that you will apply for 24 hours free entry permit upon your arrival at the cruise terminal in Shanghai where you will present your onward ticket for Singapore. This is it. I would say, quite simple and straightforward.
