About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

11 hour layover in Beijing - Visa-Free Transit?

LAX to Hong Kong (5 hr layover) to Beijing. Arrive 7/11.
11 hour airport layover in Beijing. (i'm picking up rescued greyhounds from meat market)
PEK to Moscow to JFK. Leaving 7/12.
Visa-Free Transit will work for me, right?

Having trouble with airlines telling me I'm good to go without a Visa since there is nothing in advance to fill out.
thank you!

Thanks Zupan.
I will not be leaving the airport, as the dogs will be brought to me at the airport.
I have one ticket on Cathay that says - LAX - Hong Kong(5 hr layover) - PEK.
then another ticket on Areoflot that says PEK - Moscow(5 hour layover) - JFK.

If your layover in Beijing is just 11 hours long and your itinerary is Hong Kong - Beijing - Moscow without any additional landings between them, you are definitely eligible for 24 hours visa free transit and you really don't have nothing to fill out in advance. Your tickets tell the whole story. By the way, you should be warned that your itinerary Hong Kong - Beijing and Beijing - Moscow should be on separate tickets in your particular case because you will have to exit the airport in order to pick up the dogs. Why I'm telling you this? Simply because you will have to apply for 24 hour free entry permit upon your landing in Beijing to be allowed to exit the airport and in case that you possess your entire itinerary on one ticket (through ticket), the immigration authorities could deny you entry in China because this permit is not the passenger's right, but a free discretion decision of immigration official. So, if you have separate tickets, they will definitely allow you the mentioned entry permit. When we talk about all this stuff, it would be much wiser if your layover was longer than 24 hours because with the mentioned itinerary, you would be eligible for 144 hours visa free transit.

In any case, you will be allowed to exit the airport (transit area) because you travel on separate flight tickets and you will have to apply for 24 hours free entry permit, collect your luggage, clear the immigration and customs and after that make new check-in. So, the most important detail is that you are eligible for 24 hours visa free transit and that you will be able to pick up the dogs.
