You cannot leave by high speed rail, but slow train is ok. Of course, you will need your confirmed train ticket in your hand when you check in for your flight to China.

That is what I believed, and even starting to buy the tickets, till I called the 144 office visa at the Guangzhou airport. The answering officer said, I cannot do that because there is no name on the train ticked from GZE to HK.
Now, whom should I believe? Shell I risk?

Zupan, thanks. I know that snail train, I took it dozens of times :)
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion to buy the ticket on this website. If you relly issue me the ticket with my name and passport number, that may be the solution.
Now, are you sure, when they see it at Baiyun airport, they will issue the visa or they will insist that I cannot leave Guangdong by train, as they told me on the phone? Is there any information about this possibility on a Chinese government web site?

Sinjoro, this "snail" train takes just 2 hours for its route from Guangzhou East to Hong Kong Hung Hom. So, it is not that slow at all. By the way, you can book your ticket via this website, i.e. Travel China Guide and you will receive an e-confirmation with your name and your passport number. This allows you to take this train as eligible way of transport from Guangzhou to Hong Kong.

Sinjoro, I have mentioned the possibility of booking a ticket for a "snail" train on this website, not for a sake to bring a new customer to the agency because there are also other websites offering similar services. I have mentioned this just because the fact that you will receive an e-confirmation for a "snail" train that is eligible for 144 hours visa free transit with your name and your passport number on it.

As you already know, there is no agency outside China that sells real (paper) train tickets for Chinese railways, so you always receive an e-confirmation. If you have bought your ticket for a "snail" train through MTR website, you would not be given an e-confirmation with the name and passport number, but here this is the case. With this e-confirmation, you become eligible for 144 hours visa free transit because of your name, passport number and eligible route of the train. Like this, your e-confirmation will be eligible and enough for you to be acceptable for both the check-in staff in your country of origin and for Chinese immigration authorities upon your landing in Guangzhou. Of course, you will convert your e-confirmation for your real ticket at Grand Palace hotel in Guangzhou before your travel, but you should retain your e-confirmation (or have a copy) because on the train ticket there are no names.

If you want, you can check Timatic and realize that the only eligible railway port of entry for 144 hours purpose is Guangzhou East railway station.
