About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

24 hrs Visa Free Transit query for Indian National

Hello

This website and the information available on this page is extremely useful. Many thanks for sharing it. I have a complicated itinerary in my context but would like to take your advise before I book my flights. We are family of 4 travelling from London to Shanghai (Virgin Atlantic) and connecting onward to Melbourne (Hainan) and returning from Sydney to Shanghai (Hainan) and onward to Hong Kong (Cathy Pacific). I would like to check if we can use 24hrs Visa free transit in Mainland china. On return we would like to do a city tour in Shanghai.

Arrival into Shanghai at 8.30am from London and departing Shanghai at 11.50am to Melbourne via Haikou (7.55pm departure). So in less than 12hrs we will leave Mainland china on our way to Australia.

On return, Arrival into Haikou at 5.00am and then departing to Shanghai with same airlines and arriving at 10.50am. City tour and departing Shanghai at 9.10pm to Hong Kong.

London to Mainland China on a separate itinerary, Mainland China to Australia & return on a separate itinerary and Shanghai to Hong Kong on a separate itinerary.

Sorry for a long and complicated question.. Appreciate your response.

Very clear and detailed response. Thank you so much. China will be our 74th country visit on our world tour mission. Travel has been made so easy with bloggers like you! Kudos to you and your entire team for awesome work. Our travel is a mix of air milies + cash hence this slightly complex routing to reach Australia from the Uk:-)

Actually, this what you call complicated and a long question is really a right way how to get a reliable answers. So here are the details that are the most important, at least in my opinion:

- Your both directions or better to say itineraries are definitely eligible for 24 hours visa free transit.
- Before you depart from UK, you will have to have your visa for Australia resolved to be allowed to board the plane heading to China at all.
- Your transit time in Shanghai is 3 hours 20 minutes, but you should keep in mind that since you have separate tickets, this is not such a long time and you will have to be quite quite fast because you will have to apply for 24 hours free entry permit that is essential because you will have to collect your luggage, cross the immigration and customs, make new check-in, cross the security and immigration and reach to your gate. Of course, you can do it, but you have to use your entire time for completing the formalities.
- Before you depart from Australia, you will have to have your Pre-arrival Registration online (PAR) for Hong Kong resolved to be allowed to board the plane heading to China at all.
- Upon your arrival in Shanghai, you will have to apply for 24 hours free entry permit again because you have separate tickets and you will use this one (entry permit) to continue to the city. You can use left luggage facility at the airport to leave your luggage and to explore the city on your own or by using an agency (half) day trip. It will be up to you to decide.

You have created very good and feasible itinerary and the best thing of all is that it is definitely eligible for 24 hours visa free transit. Enjoy your travel.
