About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Would I qualify for 72 hour visa free

I will arrive in Beijing October 4, 2020, stay in Beijing until I depart on a royal Caribbean cruise Oct. 7, 2020. The cruise ends in Singapore. The other ports of call are in Japan, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Do I need a tourist visa category L?

No, you don't need any kind of visa because your itinerary is eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. Here I will list just a few requirements:

- Your flight from US to Beijing should not have any additional landings in mainland China and in Japan
- I know you have mentioned that your first port call after you leave Beijing (in reality Tianjin) is in Japan, but I will repeat that your first port call, immediately after Beijing (Tianjin) should not be in mainland China

If the above requirements are met by your itinerary, you are definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Beijing.
