About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Free transit 144 hours Beijing

Good Morning,

I travel on August 15 from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing and on August 20 from Beijing to Madrid, so I will be less than 144 hours.

I contacted the airline Mongolian airlines, which is in charge of operating the flight from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing and they tell me that they can not inform me about this issue and that I have to contact the Chinese embassy.

I'm a bit uneasy if the day I fly could put me in trouble at the Ulaanbaatar airport and not let me fly. Is there any kind of official document that I can present to inform the airline about the possibility of flying without a visa or having the ticket, can not I be put in any type of impediment to fly?

On the other hand, the arrival / departure card, do they give it to you at the airport or do you have to request it beforehand?

Finally, ask them if it is necessary for the seat to appear on the flight ticket from Beijing to Madrid on the 20th, as in my case I do not have it assigned and probably until I check in 48 hours before, I will not have it. Could you present the airline ticket without seat selected?

Thank you very much for your attention.

Sincerely.
Jorge.

Jorge, you are definitely and undeniably qualified for 144 hours visa free transit in Beijing. Asking the airline customer service and Chinese embassy is just losing your time because they are completely clueless on this issue. The only people that know about this rule is airport staff and if they don't know some detail, they will consult Timatic, the ultimate source of official travel details. So, you are fine and you should appear at Ulaanbaatar airport with your tickets in hard copy and everything will be settled within a couple of minutes. You can be relaxed, trust me.

There are two types of arrival cards. The yellow one that is usually dispensed on board of the plane and upon arrival in Beijing, you will look after the 144 hours TWOV counter where you will fill out the blue form. You will present your ticket for Madrid, preferably your accommodation booking, you will get a sticker in your passport and you will be allowed to exit the airport. Here, just one remark... Your flight Beijing - Madrid should not have any additional landing within mainland China!

As far as the confirmed seat is concerned, this doesn't mean that you need to have a real seat number. This means that you cannot travel on standby, but on confirmed ticket. So, it really doesn't matter whether you have or not a seat number for your flight to Madrid. This is irrelevant. The detail that matters is that your ticket to Madrid is a confirmed and not a standby ticket.

Just enjoy in your travel, you are totally on the legal side and all the formalities are met.

I hope, that your concerns are dispersed :).
