About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit for South African Passport Holder

My daughter is a South African student studying in Hong Kong and travelling with a South African passport. She needs to fly from Hong Kong to Helsinki for a conference and a number of air lines have change overs in China which are less than 24 hours long. She will not need to leave the airport. Does she need a transit visa?

Your daughter is allowed to transit through mainland China using 24 hours visa free transit using her South African passport without any problem. Here, just one warning. In case that she has two stops within mainland China, this is also fine, but the entire transit time is calculated from her first landing in mainland China, until her last departure from mainland China. If that entire time is shorter than 24 hours, she is eligible for 24 hours visa free transit. To conclude, your daughter doesn't need a transit or any other kind of visa.
