Can I change x2 visa to x1 without leaving China

Hello I got x2 visa which will expire on 16 August I was here for chinese language studies but I want to continue with my masters degree my question is can I extend my visa here without leaving China?

Judie, you can change your visa type at local Public Security Bureau without leaving China.

Thank you, so can I go to exchange the visa if I have all the documents required 2weeks before my visa expires or I will be late?
