About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Parents flying in cruising out can they use 72 hour visa exemption

Flying into Shanghai staying two nights then departing on ship to Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, Darwin, Sydney. Can they rely on this exemption?

It depends on their stop immediately before Shanghai and their passports. If they do not stop in Hong Kong or mainland China then they will qualify for 144 hours transit without visa, as long as their passports qualify.
