Visa for China query: Shanghai Visa Free Policy

I am UK citizen flying from London to Tokyo, then transferring to cruise ship to visit areas of South Korea and Japan. At end of cruise, I disembark in Shanghai in order to fly back from Shanghai airport the same day. Please confirm that I do not require a visa for my short stay in China?

Janet, you don't need any kind of visa if your entire itinerary meets the following conditions:

- The last port call of your cruise, immediately before your arrival in the city, should not be in mainland China.
- Your flight from SH should not have any additional landing within mainland China and also in the country that has preceded before your arrival. To clarify, if you have arrived from Japan, you are not allowed to fly to Japan or if your last port call was in South Korea, you are not allowed to fly to South Korea.

In reality, eligible itinerary looks like this:

Japan or South Korea - SH - UK or any other country different that those mentioned before

If all the above conditions are satisfied, you will be definitely covered by 24 hours visa free transit in the city.
