About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 hour visa exemption transit

I flew from Sydney to Hong Kong and arrived Hk Monday 17th June.
My itinerary is
Hk to qingdao 18th June
Qingdao to HK to Taiwan 20th June

All tickets booked and paid and I was of the understanding HK is considered a third region so I was eligible for. 72 hr free visa

To my surprise when I arrived in qingdao, they sent me straight back to HK saying I wasn’t eligible!!!!

Where do I stand here as all advice I received was it would be ok

They should have denied you boarding in Hong Kong and you shouldn’t have got as far as Qingdao. The itinerary obviously doesn’t qualify for transit without visa.

Hong Kong > Qingdao > Taiwan is allowed
Hong Kong > Qingdao > Hong Kong > Taiwan is not allowed.
