About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Cruise from Shanghai

I am going to be taking a cruise from departs and ends in Shanghai. It is 7 days in length.
I want to spend 3 nights before my cruise in Shanghai.. I am a US Passport holder.. Do I require a visa or not?

It depends where the cruise goes and the flights. If its say Shanghai > Japan > Shanghai then as long as USA > Shanghai > USA doesn't transit Japan or another Chinese city then visa is not required. Full airline routing and cruise ports are taken into account
