About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

HK Transit

I live in Hong Kong with an American passport. Can I enter via train and fly out of a Bay Area airport without a visa? Then can I land there and travel out to Hong Kong without getting a visa beforehand?

As a US citizen you can get a 10-year Visa at no extra charge, so why not just do that?

Graham, could you please just make your question a bit clearer because from your post it is almost impossible to understand where do you plan to go and for what area do you ask about alternative visa that will supplement beforehand visa. I assume that you were talking about taking a flight from Shenzhen, aren't you? In case that you inted to use Shenzhen airport you cannot take a cross-border train from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, but you can take MTR train to Lo Wu crossing, apply there for Shenzhen VOA and after that proceed by metro to Shenzhen airport. Also, you can arrive at Shenzhen airport from some other country, apply there for Shenzhen VOA and after that proceed to Hong Kong.
