About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Australia to Paris via Shanghai

I am travelling to Paris via Shanghai from Australia and stopping over for 4 hrs. I am assuming I apply for the 24hr TWOV. My flight from Shanghai to Paris is in the same terminal as my arrival flight. I assume I do not have to do a bag pick up or clear customs either?

You are definitely eligible for 24 hours visa free transit in China and appears that you will not have to apply for anything. Actually, I understand that you will fly all your journey using China Eastern Airlines, so your luggage will be almost certainly checked all the way from Australia to Paris. You will know this detail for certain at your check-in in Australia where you will receive two boarding passes. Upon arrival in Shanghai, you will just stay within the transit area and wait for your next flight to Paris.
