144-hour visa free transit

If I fly directly from San Francisco to Beijing, can I be eligible for 144-hour visa free transit so I can visit Beijing before go cruising at Tianjin ?Thanks.

As I know, you are eligible for 144-hour visa free if your cruise will go to a third region other than USA and China.
