About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I get out of the airport during layover?

Hi,

I am traveling to India from Auckland with a layover of around 15hrs in Shanghai. If I have to get out of the airport in the meantime for some site-seeing, what should be the procedure to come back and board the connecting flight next?

Regards,
Tushar

First of all, your itinerary is eligible for 24 hours visa free transit, but if you are flying on China Eastern the entire itinerary, your chances to be allowed to exit the airport are relatively slim. In any case, you can apply for 24 hours free entry permit knowing that the issuing of that permit is always upon discretion of immigration official.
