About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Portugal-Guangzhou-Hong Kong

Hello,

Am I eligible for 72h (or is it 144h?) transit visa if my final destination is Hong Kong and from HK I won't have a departure ticket (as I plan to stay and work there)?

My itinerary would be:
Portugal - Guangzhou (72 hours) - Hong Kong

Thanks

Portugal - Guangzhou (72 hours) - Hong Kong is allowed as a transit. HK is treated as a separate country and has its own entry requirements.

Laura, you are eligible for 144 hours visa free transit for the itinerary that you have presented. Anyway, you should take care because we all know that there are no flights between Portugal and China at all. Basically, the most important detail is that you real (detailed) flight itinerary can use any country to reach Guangzhou, but you cannot have any additional landing in China beside Guangzhou, i.e. you cannot have any landing in China before Guangzhou.

To be eligible, you will have to book a train ticket from Guangzhou to Hong Kong IN ADVANCE and have it in your hands at the time when you will perform check-in for your flight to China (Guangzhou). On the route between Guangzhou and Hong Kong you can use only Guangzhou–Kowloon through train that departs from Guangzhou East railway station and arrives at Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong. You have to buy your ticket by visiting Guangdong Line Fare - MTR Intercity Through Train website. Keep in mind that you HAVE TO use exactly that train you have bought your tickets for. This train is fine and takes a bit less than 2 hours to reach Hong Kong from Guangzhou.
