About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA to Beijing to Japan to Shanghai to USA

Would I be able to use the 144 hour visa free transit for both Beijing and Shanghai separately if this is my itinerary: USA to Beijing to Japan to Shanghai to USA?
